I cant even believe that the government would bring up lack of funds to help out hurricace Irene victims. There should never be a time that any government says there is a limit to the resources that are available for victims who have lost their homes and their lives. I am ashamed to hear the discussion even brought up from FEMA and it does not belong in the media. We should focus more on helping those in need knowing that there will be every effort made to make sure funds are always set aside for disaster relief.

It's unfortunate you will probably never see your comment published or my reply since you have used a fake email address to correspond. So much for honest discourse.

Obviously, you did not read or get the point of the entire article, which points out that the material about the Caribs being cannibals may have been a psychological warfare campaign to justify their extermination. That myth is still repeated on most of the islands you mention. Thank you for this reading list. I intend to read some of volumes if they are easy to find.

Incidentally, the new name for the former Caribs (I know, they keep changing it) according to the current chief is Kallinago, a K replacing the C. And you do know the Taino or Arawaks were on many of the islands before the Caribs arrived and displaced them? The Kallinagos were not "the original inhabitants of the Caribbean." That is well established historical fact, not open to question or interpretation.

Superficially researched and poorly interpreted information like the one Mr. Okeefe presents here disguised as historical fact adds to the long list of bibliographic misrepresentations and further propagates racist discourse and discriminatory practices against the Callinagos, original inhabitants of the Caribbean, and their descendants, the Garinagu of Honduras, Guatemala, Belize and Nicaragua.

May I recommend further research to help correct this myopic perspective of the Calinago past:
Reid, Basil - Myths & Realities of Caribbean History
Hulme, Peter & Whiehead, Neil - Wild Majesty Encounters with Caribs
Charles, Asselin - Colonial Discourse Since Christopher Columbus
Kirby, I.E. and Martin, C.I. The Rise and Fall of the Black Caribs. St. Vincent
